At a blustery New Bayview, the Lichties put in a committed and professional showing to get our first win on the board. Great relief all round from players, staff and fans - who were superb.
Serge started in midfield with Grehan and Martin on the bench and Ryan as the lone striker upfront. We were clearly trying to keep things tight throughout which left Ryan ploughing a lone furrow against two big defenders. We started really brightly and Serge powered through and fired just wide. But Fife came into the game as the first half wore on and pushed us back.
Few clear chances were created for either side. From a couple of corners second half, E Fife attempts proved wide or lame as Fleming and the twin centre backs were solid and sharp. We didn't create much ourslef but, with just 10 minutes to go, a mistake in the Fife defence let Ryan run onto goals before he was crudely hauled down. From the freekick, Bobby Linn flighted the perfect ball in... and celebrated in front of the fans of his former club (all the ex-Fifers seemed happy it the win)
This was a professional, discipined showing - we were probably playing for a draw and not committing too much going forward but couldhave done better with late breakaways as Fife became stretched
Massive relief and celebrations at the end of the game - cna we build on this
