Lichties owe it to fans

overturnedFrom the Courier :  ARBROATH MANAGER Jim Weir is urging his players to put their shock weekend Scottish Cup exit to non-league Irvine Meadow behind them when they face Alloa in a re-arranged second division match at Gayfield tonight.

He said, “One of the good things about football is that you often have the chance to get a result like that out of your system quickly, and so I’m glad we’ve got this game against Alloa so soon.

“We owe it to our supporters and to ourselves to play a lot better than we did on Saturday as those who travelled through to Irvine certainly didn’t get value for money.

“In most of the games and training sessions since I arrived here the players have shown me that they have ability, but we can’t go from the way we played against Peterhead to the performance at Irvine and expect to achieve our aims.”

He continued, “I still believe we had enough quality in our team to get the right result, but Irvine showed a far better attitude to us on the day and we paid the price.

“When a team is playing well you can sometimes manage to carry one or two players who—for whatever reason—are not at their best, but on Saturday there were just too many guys under-performing, so I will be making changes for Alloa’s visit.

“What I need is a level of consistency throughout the team and from game to game.
