From the Sunday Mail : Arbroath 0 Ayr Utd 3
Paul Sheerin won’t hit the panic button despite a disastrous start to the season that has seen Arbroath crash out of two cups and slump to the bottom of the division.
Michael Moffat’s double and Alan Forrest’s coolly- taken third consigned the Gayfield men to their third straight loss. That follows first-round Ramsdens and Scottish Communities League Cup exits but player-boss Sheerin said: “I’m not going to stand here and lie and say I’m unconcerned.
“I’m concerned and every one of my players should look at themselves and think, ‘What can I do to make it better?’
“Three games and no wins is not good but it’s not time to panic yet.” The Honest Men took the lead in 13 minutes when Scott McLaughlin sped down the right and cut back for Moffat to drill in.
And his next strike, four minutes later, was even better.
Michael McGowan feigned to shoot at a 25-yard free-kick before flicking over the wall to the unmarked Moffat who volleyed in.
The Gayfield side improved after the break with Michael Travis striking a post from six yards but teenage sub Forrest sealed the Ayr’s win – their first opening-day victory since 2006– in 62 minutes with a cool finish.
Ayr boss Mark Roberts said: “We were excellent and could have scored more.”
