Interesting comments from Paul Sheerin and Bobby Linn in this week's Herald. They both stress the team remains confident but the gaffer makes a point a good few Lichtie have made.
We re not the worst team in the league but we've been unable to grind out the results commensurate with our performances.
We should have a fair few more points on the board. Mind you our leaky defence has often meant we're battling uphill all the time. But the attitude and commitment has been there if not - often enough - the quality and the luck.
Or is this just a collective bias on our part - does the League position lie?
From the Arbroath Herald 21st March: The gaffer said: “It’s not going to be easy, but with seven games to go it’s going to be a real dog fight, two really tough games coming up, away to Ayr who are pretty free scoring at the minute and then obviously Rangers here after that.
“We’ve got a real tough run of games, none of them are easy unfortunately. In this position we’re having to pick ourselves up and see what we can do now because we need to start picking up points, there’s no getting away from it.
“We just have to get on with it really. In that game we outperformed Airdrie, which it has been like that in recent weeks, we’re perhaps just not running ugly like sometimes we need to.
“In recent weeks we’ve outperformed most teams round about us, we’ve just been unfortunate in not getting the results we’ve wanted.
“We’ve got plenty of positives to take away from these matches which is a good thing at this stage in the season, the last thing you want to feel at this point is that you’ve let yourself down.”
Tomorrow (Saturday) Arbroath are away to Ayr United, a former stamping ground of Mr Sheerin. He said: “It’s always nice to go back to places you’ve been before. It’ll be another tough fixture as Ayr are on a great run.
“Michael Moffat is back from suspension and I think it’s done him the world of good, he’s scoring for fund again.
“He’s a huge threat for this game and if we can find an opportunity to nullify him we’ll maybe have a good chance.”
