From the Sunday Mail: Stenhousemuir 3 Arbroath 2
MARTYN CORRIGAN can’t fathom how Eddie Malone scored straight from a corner-kick against the wind – but the Stenny boss isn’t complaining.
Malone netted a vital second and the Stenhousemuir gaffer said: “It was into the wind and I don’t know how Eddie did it!
“We rode our luck a wee bit at times. Eddie’s goal went in at the back post, it was a great delivery.”
Sean Lynch gave Stenny the lead with a sliced drive from 16 yards in the 49th minute.
Arbroath levelled in the 62nd minute, Michael Travis heading home a Bobby Linn corner, but Malone’s amazing effort put the home side ahead again.
And Errol Douglas rounded the keeper to stretch their lead.
But a brilliant Lee Erwin drive pulled one back for Arbroath then Alan Cook hit the post – but they couldn’t close the gap
Arbroath player-manager Paul Sheerin said: “We are giving away too many goals – 32 in the league. It’s frustrating but we must keep working hard.”
