One point gained or two points dropped?
Alloa had all the early play in this basement battle, but couldn’t convert their chances into goals. Alloa had 6 corners in the first 12 minutes, and from 1 of these corners, Ross Hamilton headed just over. Two minutes later
After this early pressure, Arbroath got back into the match, and then scored through a Gav Swankie corner. Gavin curled a beautiful ball accoss the box and to the back post where Chris McLeod headed home.
Seven minutes later Arbroath doubled their lead. Swankie played a good through ball over the top, and Diack ran in on goal and finished the ball well past James Evans in the Alloa goal. The game was pretty even up until half time, with both teams having possession but no clear cut chances.
Arbroath made 1 substitution at HT, as Craig Coyle was feeling sick he was replaced by Neil Inglis. Seven minutes after the restart, Alloa pulled a goal back. Inglis was left standing 4 yards off his line, and Ian Ross delightfully chipped the ball over his head from 20 yards out.
Twelve minutes later Alloa deservedly equalised, and brought flash backs of the game in Decemeber to all AFC fans present. Flyer made a challenge 20 yards from goal, which won the ball well, yet for some bizarre reason he was penalised. From the resulting free kick, Jamie Stevenson curled a superb free kick around the wall.
After this, Arbroath did very well to get back into the game, with both teams having an even amount of the possession, but neither creating any good chances, apart from a Gavin Swankie shot which was inches wide of the left hand post.
With Dumbarton also drawing, this was definitely 2 points dropped. We need to start turning these draws into wins at this stage of the season, but it is possible. The fans NEED to get right behind the team at home to Berwick next Saturday, and hopefully cheer the team on to victory! We can still stay up, keep the faith and keeping supporting the Lichties! Bring on Berwick!
